Tom Shaw
Vice president, Tabor College Wichita
Shaw wants you – especially if you went to Tabor College.
Shaw, who started his job July 1, said part of his role is significantly increasing the number of students at Tabor’s Wichita campus, which currently serves 168 students. Tabor’s main campus is in Hillsboro.
“In large part, it’s going to be taking advantage of our alumni base in Wichita and beyond, encouraging them to refer names of people that they know of that want to finish degrees,” Shaw said.
Shaw, 56, grew up in Ohio. He earned a bachelor’s degree in education at Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, then spent 11 years working for the school in student and enrollment services.
“I’m really passionate about seeing people advance their lives and careers,” he said.
While working as dean of enrollment management at Bryan College in Dayton, Tenn., he earned master’s and doctorate degrees from the University of Tennessee.
“I kind of know what it feels like for adult students to go back to school and feel uncertain about it, living a crowded life with classes on the side,” he said. “It’s kind of intense.”
Most recently, he was vice president for enrollment management at Simpson University in Redding, Calif.
Shaw and his wife, Carolyn, have four grown children. He enjoys walking, biking, reading and playing golf.
