Sunderland Foundation gives $200,000 for new Newman science center
The Sunderland Foundation out of Overland Park recently announced a $200,000 gift to Newman University in support of the new Bishop Gerber Science Center and other renovations at the school, according to a news release.
The gift will go toward a university campaign designed to raise $30 million for the 51,400-square-foot science center and upgrades to other existing health and nursing education facilities on Newman’s Wichita campus.
“While some of our health care graduates build their careers in other states or other countries, the majority remain in Kansas,” said Noreen Carrocci, president of the university, in the release. “We are grateful to the Sunderland Foundation for this generous gift, which will help support our efforts to create qualified nurses, pre-med graduates and other healthcare workers who will serve throughout Kansas and the region.”
Renovations to nursing and health sciences facilities in Eck Hall are underway and will be completed in time for the fall semester. The university broke ground for the new science center in June, and the facility is scheduled to open in August 2017.
