Planned Pittsburg casino names Kansas Star veteran as key staffer

Kansas Crossing Casino and Hotel, slated for completion in March near Pittsburg, Kan., announced that Doug Fisher will become general manager as of July 1.

Fisher helped open the Kansas Star Casino in Mulvane in 2011 and the arena there in 2012. He was the marketing and entertainment director at Kansas Star for more than five years, first under Peninsula Gaming and then under Boyd Gaming. He has more than 20 years of experience in the industry.

Fisher worked for years with Peninsula Gaming, the group behind Kansas Crossing Casino. He served for 15 years as marketing director at Diamond Jo Casino, a Peninsula casino in Dubuque, Iowa. He was also catering director for Jumer’s Castle Lodge in the Quad Cities in Iowa and beverage manager with the Westin Hotel in Chicago.

One of Fisher’s first jobs will be choosing vendors and hiring and training staff members.
