Fidelity Bank Foundation gives $75,000 for Newman University science building

The Fidelity Bank Foundation of Wichita has announced a $75,000 grant to Newman University toward the new Bishop Gerber Science Center, according to a news release.

The grant is in support of a university campaign designed to raise $30 million for the 51,400 square-foot science center and upgrades to other existing health and nursing education facilities on Newman’s campus.

In a letter to the university, foundation director Clay Bastian said the organization appreciates the work done at Newman and that it is “proud to support your mission.” The grant was announced on Wednesday.

Renovations to nursing and health sciences facilities in Eck Hall are underway, according to the release, and will be completed in time for the fall semester. The university plans to break ground for the new science center June 10 with the facility scheduled to open in August 2017.

The Fidelity Bank Foundation is the charitable arm of Wichita-based Fidelity Bank. The foundation gives primarily in the areas of arts, education, human services and community betterment, the release said.
