Developers to break ground a second time on Kansas Crossing Casino and Hotel
The developers of Kansas Crossing Casino and Hotel near Pittsburg will hold a second groundbreaking ceremony at 1 p.m. on May 5.
Construction had started in late July on the $70.2 million Kansas Crossing complex at U.S. 400 and U.S. 69 just south of Pittsburg, but the developers halted it in early September after a legal challenge.
Kansas Crossing in early July won the three-way competition by a Kansas Racing and Gaming Commission for a southeast Kansas location.
One of the losing development groups, Wichita-based Castle Rock Resort Casino – led by Wichita businessmen Brandon and Rodney Steven – sought to overturn the decision but lost that challenge in Shawnee County District Court last month.
Kansas Crossing will feature 625 slot machines, 16 gaming tables, a 123-room Hampton Inn and Suites and a 600-seat entertainment complex. It is scheduled for completion by March.
