Senior living community Prairie Homestead is about to break ground on a $6 million project to tear down several older units and erect six new buildings, containing 24 units at its campus on 1605 W. May.

The not-for-profit organization is affiliated with the American Baptist Convention, which currently has 115 units on its campus. The campus is northwest of Seneca and Pawnee.

The one-bedroom apartment homes will be about 775 square feet, and the two-bedroom, about 986 square feet. Simpson Construction Services will handle the project.

Construction is set to begin in May and open in the summer of 2017.
