Randy Summers, senior vice president of Sunflower Bank’s Wichita market, will retire at the end of April.

Summers, 66, who has been at the bank since 2014, will be succeeded by Evan Funk.

Summers said he made the decision in February after discussions with his family over the holidays.

“Old dogs just can’t hunt every day,” Summers said. “That’s really what it comes down to. I enjoyed my time here, and I enjoyed working with our customers, but it’s time. It had gotten to the point where it wasn’t fun anymore.”

A 42-year veteran of the banking industry, Summers said recent regulations placed on the industry and a weariness of the day-to-day grind contributed to his decision.

“It was a tough decision,” Summers said. “My wife and I are planning to downsize a bit. I might work part time or consult somewhere to keep busy. It was just time for me to get out of the rat race.”

Funk, a former executive with Fidelity Bank, started at Sunflower earlier this year as the bank’s senior vice president of commercial lending. Jim Faith left Sunflower Bank in 2013 after 10 years as its Wichita market president. Faith was succeeded by Mark Heiman, who left in 2014.

Sunflower is a community bank with $1.7 billion in assets, based in Salina. Sunflower has three locations in Wichita.
