Fair-trade sportswear and online help for nonprofits pitched at 1 Million Cups ICT (+ videos)
A seller of fair-trade athletic wear and an online platform for nonprofit organizations were the two local business ideas presented at Wednesday’s 1 Million Cups ICT event.
1 Million Cups ICT is a weekly gathering designed to aid entrepreneurs by helping them get advice and make contacts in the community. It meets from 9 to 10 a.m. on Wednesdays at 238 N. Mead in Old Town.
Here were the latest presenters.
Matano
Founders: Toby Kriwiel and Benny Bowden
Pitch: Kriwiel and Bowden believe in using sports to teach about fair play. They plan to sell athletic wear made in a factory in India where a living wage is paid and no child labor is used.
Status: They are busy building interest in the concept.
Need: They expect to start a Kickstarter campaign for $20,000 to $25,000 in mid- to late-April.

OrgO and OrgFree
Founders: Don Grant and Bill Ramsey
Pitch: They want to build an online platform for nonprofits to manage board member and volunteer communications, calendars, documents and more. It will use a freemium model, with a free tier for basic services and paid add-ons for more advanced needs.
Status: They have some basics designed but need investors, designers and programmers.
Need: About $350,000 to launch initial product.
Next week
The next 1 Million Cups ICT will feature Hopping Gnome Brewing and Syndeo Outsourcing.
