The Wichita Metro Chamber of Commerce has named 10 local businesses as finalists for its Small Business Awards.

The award recognizes outstanding small businesses in Wichita. More than 100 companies were nominated, and 25 continued through the application process.

The chamber named the 10 finalists Wednesday evening at an event at Newman University. The Eagle’s Business Today is a sponsor of the awards.

The finalists will go through site visits and interviews before two winners are named May 11. The finalists will tell their stories at a chamber Sunrise Scrambler event on April 14.

The contest is split into two categories: Tier One, for companies with 25 employees or less; and Tier Two, for companies with between 26 and 100 employees. The companies must be headquartered in Wichita and have been in business at least three years.

The companies, which must be chamber members, are judged on their business success, employee relations and community contributions.

The five finalists in each category are:

Tier One

Patton Termite and Pest Control, a residential and commercial pest control company.

SPECS, an eyewear company with five locations in the area.

TheraPlay Spot, a pediatric occupational and physical therapy center.

Tru-Building, Inc., a residential and commercial construction company founded in 2010.

Xclusive Events, a company that provides bar services for parties and receptions.

Tier Two

Builders Plus Construction LLC, a concrete contractor founded in 1985.

Charles E. Mahaney Roofing, a commercial and public building roofing company that stretches back to 1888 in Wichita.

ComfortCare Homes, residential group homes for people with dementia.

Midwest Single Source, an office supply and equipment business.

The Martens Companies, a commercial real estate brokerage, which does appraisal, management and more.
