State seizes south Wichita restaurant for not paying sales tax

The Kansas Department of Revenue and Sedgwick County sheriff’s officers on Tuesday seized the business assets of Burritos El Mexicano, 1712 E. 47th St. South.

The business owed $50,419 in state sales tax. Officers seized all known bank accounts, on-site cash, business inventory and personal property assets belonging to owner Marina Garcia. The assets will be sold at public auction to pay the taxes owed.

The state said it encourages delinquent taxpayers to enter into a repayment agreement. It seizes assets when other collection attempts have been exhausted. Other methods include telephone calls, letters of impending action, tax liens, bank levies and on-site till taps.
