Joan Barrett takes over as general manager of Denver TV stations

Joan Barrett, long-time general manager at KWCH-TV Channel 12 in Wichita and its affiliated stations, has been named vice president and general manager of KDVR-Channel 31 and KWGN-Channel 2 in Denver, according to the stations’ owner, Tribune Media.

Barrett will start at the new position this month. She will be responsible for all elements of the stations’ day-to-day operations as well as strategic planning.

“Joan is the perfect fit for these stations,” Larry Wert, president of Broadcast Media, Tribune Media, said in a statement. “She is a proven leader and has shown a unique ability to innovate.

“We look forward to her engagement and commitment to our employees, partners and viewers in Denver.”

While in Wichita, Barrett served as news director for KWCH in 2002 for 18 months before being promoted to general manager. She served in that role for 11 years.
