Kansas rebounds with stronger second quarter GDP, still ranks 41st among states

The Kansas economy recorded growth of 2.8 percent in the second quarter, a healthy rebound from the first quarter’s sharp decline of 4.7 percent, according to the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis.

But the rest of the nation also snapped back in the quarter, leaving Kansas below the national average of 3.8 percent growth, ranking it 41st.

The top performing sectors in Kansas were: finance and insurance; wholesale trade; construction; transportation and warehousing; and professional and technical services.

The declines in agriculture, and oil and gas industry cut state GDP by nearly three-quarters of a percent.
