Military spouse resource guide earns top spot at InnovateHer competition

An idea for a military spouse-related resource guide won first place in the regional InnovateHer competition at Wichita State University, according to a news release.

Michelle Bradfield’s idea for a “virtual resource guide for the health and wellness of military spouses” was selected as the winner of the competition, which asked for female-centered innovative business ideas.

Bradfield will have a chance to compete in the national InnovateHer semifinal round. The Small Business Administration will identify up to 10 finalists from regional and local competitions to travel to Washington, D.C., in March to compete for up to $70,000 in prize money provided by Microsoft, the release said. The regional competition, put on by WSU Ventures, took place Nov. 13, with a winner being chosen a week later.

The resource guide dreamed up by Bradfield, a military spouse stationed at Fort Riley, would assist military families in exploring local health and wellness options in an effort to make their “assigned duty stations feel like home,” according to the release.

In addition to winning, Bradfield also received a one-year membership to the Wichita Metro Chamber of Commerce. Judges for the competition were Wayne Bell, Cindy Claycomb, Mark Torline, Trish Brasted, Becky Hundley and Karen Page. Five entrants participated in the competition.
