Gas prices fell in Wichita — again — to average $1.84
Gas prices just keep falling, hitting an average of $1.84 in Wichita on Monday, down from $1.93 a week ago, according to Gasbuddy.com.
A year ago, the average price in Wichita was $2.64.
It’s part of a nationwide trend that’s both seasonal, with the switch to lower cost winter-blends and refinery maintenance, and the result of the global oil glut. The price of West Texas Intermediate crude oil is hovering around $40 per barrel.
The average price in the U.S. on Monday was $2.06.
“Gasoline prices appear ripe to break under the $2 per gallon threshold in the next day or two, something not witnessed since March, 2009," said Patrick DeHaan, GasBuddy senior petroleum analyst, said in a statement. “In addition, oil prices seem likely to spend some time under $40 per barrel, also some of the lowest prices witnessed since the Great Recession — it’ll come in handy not only the week ahead, but for the holiday season as well.”
