DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Wichita Airport to get new owner after three decades

The Wichita Eagle

The long-time owners of the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Wichita Airport are selling the building to Colorado investors.

The hotel opened in 1981 on leased airport property by Wichita Airport Hotel Associates, a group of Kansas investors. The buyer is Greenwood Hospitality Group, based in Denver, according to a City Council agenda report.

Because businesses at the airport can only lease their land long-term, rather than own it outright, the council must approve the deal.

At its Tuesday meeting, the council will consider a legal certificate documenting that the current owners are current on the lease and will transfer the lease to the new owner.

Greenwood, which owns 12 hotels around the country, is forming 2015 Wichita Investment LLC to own and operate the hotel. Lender Societe Generale is lending Greenwood $22.5 million as part of the transaction.

Michael Phipps, general manager, and Sheri Dierking, sales and marketing manager, who have served at the hotel for more than two decades, have announced their retirement.
