The Grasshopper Company, which manufactures mowers and other grounds maintenance equipment, has been selected 2014 Company of the Year by the local chapter of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers.
The company was recognized during a Tuesday event at the Petroleum Club in downtown Wichita.
Grasshopper’s president Stan Guyer accepted the award, which was made based on criteria that included the design of products and the efficiency of the manufacturing processes at the company’s Moundridge facilities, according to a news release.
Recent upgrades at Grasshopper include additions to laser, welding and assembly robotics and an expanded powder coat paint system.
“Our manufacturing process is a great source of pride,” Guyer said in a statement. “It represents who we are and what we’re committed to. We believe these investments are investments in our future – not only for our company, but for our community, our county and our state. We’re proud that SME recognized our pursuit of engineering and manufacturing excellence.”
