The area’s largest real estate firm will have a new president next year.

J.P. Weigand & Sons said Wednesday that John Rupp will become president effective Jan. 1.

Rupp, a commercial and auction specialist who has been with the company for 12 years, replaces Dawn Truman, who the company said will move into a new dual role.

Truman, a 31-year employee of the company, will become Weigand senior vice president and lead its commercial division.

“I’m honored to take on this leadership role,” Rupp said in a statement. “And because Dawn and I are so close, we collaborate easily and often on the kinds of measures that will keep us going in the right direction.”

Rupp, 34, said he joined the firm in 2002 after graduating from the University of Kansas. He has worked mostly in its farm and ranch auction division, and has done some work for the commercial division.

He said he will continue to be active in the farm and ranch division while serving as president.

Truman said she assumed the role of interim general manager of Weigand’s commercial division following Jerry Gray’s retirement in June.

Wednesday’s announcement makes that role permanent, and Truman also will continue to have a role in the firm’s overall operations.

The restructuring of the leadership team “brings our skills together to build a solid management platform for our company,” Truman said.

Weigand said in a news release that Gary Walker remains vice president and general manager of the residential division. Walker has been with the company for 34 years.

“His perspective and the energy of these three together gives me great confidence that we can keep the Weigand family legacy as a lasting one,” Nestor Weigand Jr., the firm’s chairman and CEO, said in the release. “These changes put us in the best position to take advantage of whatever comes our way.”

The firm was founded in 1902 and has more than 275 agents.
