The Greater Wichita YMCA announced on Thursday it has hired a new CEO after an eight-month search to replace retiring CEO Dennis Schoenebeck.

Ronn McMahon, who is an executive at the YMCA in Tacoma, Wash., will take over as CEO in Wichita on Jan. 4, 2016.

According to a news release from the YMCA, McMahon has had 18 years of experience with the YMCA.

At his current job as senior vice president for strategic advancement and collaborations, he has increased the Tacoma YMCA’s revenue and participation by more than 300 percent, according to the news release. He has also grown community support and the number of members receiving discounted and free services by more than 400 percent, according to the release.

According to the release, McMahon is recognized nationally as a leader in the YMCA philanthropy movement.

McMahon will visit Wichita in the coming months to prepare for January, when he and his family will move to Wichita.

Longtime volunteer Marilyn Pauly led the eight-month nationwide search to find a replacement for Schoenebeck, who will retire on Jan. 1, 2016.

During Schoenebeck’s 25-year tenure, the Greater Wichita YMCA has grown and now has eight full-service facilities in the area.
