Local techies and entrepreneurs will gather Friday evening at the Labor Party, 216 N. Mosley, for Startup Weekend Wichita.
The event, in its second year, is a weekend-long competition during which teams think up software-oriented business ideas, flesh them out, and start developing the coding and design for the product.
The event includes coaching and mentoring throughout the weekend as the teams work to develop their business. The participants gain valuable experience in the start-up process and may wind up creating real businesses.
It begins at 6:30 p.m. Friday, includes some meals, and concludes Sunday evening with judging and the awarding of prizes for best business. Tickets are $99 for the weekend, but the demonstrations starting at 5 p.m. Sunday are free.
