Kansas personal income growth in second quarter ranks 49th

Kansas personal income in the second quarter grew just 0.3 percent from the first quarter, putting the state 49th in the nation ahead of only Oklahoma.

Personal income includes all wages, benefits, dividends, interest, rent and government transfers such as Social Security and Medicare.

U.S. personal income growth was 0.9 percent from the quarter before.

Kansas was hurt most severely in the quarter by the steep loss of income for company owners and managers. The state’s farm and oil and gas operators have lost significant income in 2015.

Since 2012, Kansas has ranked 46th in personal income growth.
