Wichita-area economy grew 2.2 percent in 2014

The Wichita-area economy grew 2.2 percent in inflation adjusted terms in 2014, putting the city in the top third of U.S. metro areas, according to the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis.

The five-county regional economy produced $30.3 billion in goods and services last year. The sector making the biggest contribution was non-durable goods manufacturing, which includes food products, chemicals and gasoline.

But the report also showed that the Wichita economy shrank by 7 percent in 2013, making it one of the worst performers in the nation.
