Gas plant worth several hundred million dollars to hold grand opening
State and local officials, including Lt. Gov. Jeff Colyer, will mark the grand opening of the Tenawa Haven Gas Plant on the south side of K-96 in Haven on Thursday.
One of the largest gas processing plants in the U.S., the plant started commercial operation on May 15. It sits atop several natural gas pipelines and extracts liquid hydrocarbons from gas shipped from Texas, Oklahoma and Kansas. The plant can process up to 1.4 billion cubic feet of natural gas per day.
The plant is one of the most fuel efficient and flexible facilities in the world. Cost of the installation is several hundred million dollars.
Tenawa permanently employs 10 people in Haven, 35 miles northwest of Wichita.
