Jessie Anderson, Program representative, Friends University
Anderson’s job is recruiting students to Friends’ College of Adult and Professional Studies, which is set up to help older students finish their bachelor’s degree.
“It’s about making a life choice to complete a degree,” she said. “For me, it’s a lot of aiding the person into making a decision about why it’s important to them. I’d say 99 percent of our students have jobs, families and extracurriculars.”
Anderson grew up in Derby and graduated from the University of Kansas with a degree in strategic communications. After an internship in London, she returned to Wichita to be with her fiance, former Wichita State University baseball player Drew Rainey, whom she plans to marry on New Year’s Eve.
She started work at Friends in 2012 and is also pursuing an MBA from the school. Recently named “Newcomer of the Year” by the Kansas chapter of the Public Relations Society of America, Anderson said she’d eventually like to find a job that is focused mostly on public relations.
Outside of work, Anderson enjoys volunteering in the community, playing tennis and exercising at the downtown YMCA.
