Pizza chain opened Monday in Wichita, is taking call-in, walk-in orders for now
It took them a couple of days longer than they initially expected, but the people bringing Pizza Shuttle to Wichita opened the restaurant on Monday, Feb. 2.
Though the Pizza Shuttle website didn’t reflect as of Monday morning that Wichita’s Pizza Shuttle was open, it is, said licensee Justin Neel. For now, people can order by walking into the store or by calling 316-248-5577. Delivery service will start once the website is updated.
The owners of Social Tap’s three area locations —Justin Neel, Luke Luttrell and David Hopkins — are the people behind the Wichita location, which is the Braeburn Square development on the Wichita State University’s Innovation Campus near 21st and Oliver. That development is also where the original Social Tap opened in 2021.
Pizza Shuttle has taken over the space next to Jersey Mike’s that was previously occupied by Pedego.
Those who attended KU or K-State during the past four decades probably remember the restaurant, which specializes in inexpensive pizzas and is designed to appeal to a college crowd: a 10-inch pizza with a drink costs $8, and a 14-inch pizza with two drinks costs $14.
The chain started in Lawrence in 1984 and has since expanded to Manhattan, Topeka and Kansas City.
Wichita’s Pizza Shuttle won’t be open until 2 a.m. like the ones that operate in Lawrence and Manhattan. But it will stay open until midnight. Neel said the owners may stretch those hours if there’s demand. For now, the hours will be 11 a.m. to midnight daily.
A big part of the Pizza Shuttle model is delivery. Once the website is updated and accepts online orders, Wichita’s restaurant will offer delivery through third-party vendors like DoorDash and Uber Eats. Eventually, the Wichita store will also have its own delivery service, which will deliver food within a 5- to 8-mile radius, Neel said.
Wichita’s Pizza Shuttle will have a small amount of dine-in seating, but it will also have a back patio. In the spring, it will start serving canned beer.
The food comes in boxes and to-go packaging, regardless of whether people intend to dine-in, carry out or order delivery.
