Steel fabrication company Boardman has closed its operation at 3400 N. Broadway in Wichita as of July 31 after nearly eight decades of operation.
The company employed 22 people in Wichita. It offered positions to 12 at the company’s Oklahoma City location and eight accepted, said president and CEO Robby Hagemann.
Hagemann said the steel-tank making plant in Wichita just couldn’t achieve the efficiencies needed in a competitive market.
The Wichita operation was founded as Wichita Steel Fabricators in the 1937 and, after some ownership changes, was renamed Boardman in 2010.
