Hesston-based lawn mower manufacturer Excel Industries will open a new facility at Logistics Park Kansas City in Edgerton, according to a news release.

The plans to create 200 new jobs at the facility, which will include warehousing and distribution space and, eventually, the manufacturing of an existing lawn care product line, according to the release from the Kansas Department of Commerce.

“We are excited about making Kansas City the primary distribution center for our products,” stated Excel vice president Bob Mullet in the release. “It puts us closer to the geographic center of our customers, and the strength of Kansas City as a national distribution point will allow us to serve our dealers in a more timely and cost-efficient manner.”

Bob Marcusse, president of the Kansas City Area Development Council, said Kansas City competed against markets such as Indianapolis, Nashville and Oklahoma City for the Excel expansion. Excel was found in 1960 and is a third-generation family business.
