The Fidelity Bank Foundation, the charitable arm of Wichita-based Fidelity Bank, has donated $75,000 to Envision. The gift will be used to complete construction and to support the ongoing operation of the Envision Research Institute. The facility, being built inside Envision’s downtown Wichita headquarters, will study the challenges associated with low vision and practical approaches to addressing them.
Westar Energy donated $5,000 to Communities in Schools of Wichita/Sedgwick County to support its Reality U financial literacy program for high school students.
Credit Union of America has awarded $8,000 to 12 local students. The funds were from the credit union’s John Michener Scholarship program for the 2015-16 school year. Students who were awarded $1,000 were Shelby Grosch, Wichita State University; Taylor Wright, Wichita Heights; Akim Richards, Maize High, and Keeleigh Smith, University of Kansas. Students who were awarded $500 are Thaddaeus Robison, Goddard High School; Caleb Oeding, Maize South High; Rachel Gros, Kansas State University; Victoria Reggeti, Bishop Carroll High School; Grandon Pickering, Cowley Community College; Joshua Barragsee, Bishop Carroll High School; Hausten Irving, Northeast Magnet High School; and Katie Hommertzheim, Emporia State University.
Students were chosen by a scholarship committee, made up of staff and volunteers. Winners were chosen based on their grade point average, community and school activities and an essay on teaching young adults about financial literacy. Credit Union of America has 12 retail locations in Kansas, including Wichita and Derby.
