Pension benefits for railroad retirees to be topic of meeting
A group representing the interests of retired railroad employees will hold a meeting at 10 a.m. Nov. 1 at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Wichita Airport.
The National Association of Retired and Veteran Railway Employees, Inc. is presenting a program to inform railroad industry workers and retirees about their pension benefits under the Railroad Retirement Act.
According to a news release from the association, pension benefits under the Railroad Retirement Act differ from benefits paid under Social Security. The NARVRE also said in the release that about 2,892 railroad retirees live in Kansas’ 4th Congressional District.
The program on benefits will be given by August “Whitey” Westphal, past president of North Ridgeville, Ohio. Along with others, Westphal will discuss the solvency of the pension program for railroad retirees and the rights of railroad retirees under the Railroad Retirement Act. Recent developments in Congress affecting railroad retires will be outlined.
Pickup materials will be available, and surviving spouses, as well as retirees, are encouraged to attend the session.
