NetApp receives award for Wichita mentoring
Fortune 500 company NetApp received a corporate culture award for its mentoring work in Wichita during a White House ceremony Thursday in Washington, D.C., according to a news release.
The data storage company was one of two organizations to receive an excellence in corporate culture award for its support of the national US2020 initiative, which aims to add to the number of U.S. professionals working in the areas of science, technology, engineering and math, or STEM.
NetApp was honored for its volunteer efforts with the local STEMpact2020 initiative in Wichita. As part of STEMpact2020, sponsored by Wichita State University’s College of Engineering and part of the larger national initiative, the company provided year-long mentoring services for high school seniors and led computer programming and software engineering clubs for the Girl Scouts of Kansas Heartland, according to the release.
In May 2014, Wichita was one of seven communities recognized at a US2020 city competition for building collaboration around STEM mentoring. For more information on STEMpact2020, visit www.stempact2020.org.
