Cherokee County seeks reversal of southeast Kansas casino recommendation

Cherokee County commissioners are asking the Kansas Racing and Gaming Commission to reverse a vote by another state board to award a casino license to the Kansas Crossing casino.

The Kansas Lottery Gaming Facility Review Board on Tuesday voted to recommend Kansas Crossing, a $70 million casino to be built just south of Pittsburg in Crawford County, to the commission for approval. The Racing and Gaming Commission is responsible for doing a final background check on the recommended choice, and is set to vote on Kansas Crossing license for Kansas Crossing on Thursday.

In a letter to the state commission, the Cherokee County Commissioners laid out the reasons the state should award the license to the one casino that would be built in Cherokee County, Castle Rock Casino Resort.
