Enron whistleblower to keynote Better Business Bureau lunch
Sherron Watkins, the former Enron vice president who discovered the energy giant’s accounting irregularities, will be the keynote speaker at the Better Business Bureau’s Integrity Awards luncheon in August in Wichita.
The Better Business Bureau said the luncheon, to be held at 11:30 a.m. Aug. 20 at the Hyatt Regency Wichita, recognizes local businesses and individuals for ethical practices.
“This is a one-of-a-kind opportunity to be inspired by Sherron Watkins’ integrity while supporting and celebrating local businesses and also some students who are role models of ethical practices in our state,” BBB Kansas state director Denise Groene said in a news release.
Watkins was one of three whistleblowers – the other two are Coleen Rowley of the FBI and Cynthia Cooper of WorldCom – that Time magazine named its 2002 Persons of the Year. Watkins also co-authored a book on the collapse of Enron and testified before House and Senate committees investigating Enron’s downfall.
