Civilian aircraft exports for U.S. up through August

U.S. exports of civilian aircraft were up 7.5 percent for the year through August, according to information from the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis.

For other exports that are important to the area’s economy: Aircraft parts were up 5.7 percent; computers were up 1.3 percent; and agricultural machinery was down 4.9 percent through August of 2014.

Among agricultural exports: sorghum and oats were up 217.7 percent; corn was up 99.7 percent; meat was up 9.2 percent; soybeans were down 4 percent; and wheat was down 23.2 percent through August.

Overall, U.S. exports were up 3.1 percent through 2014 compared to the first eight months of 2013, but so were imports, leaving the trade deficit about even to what it was last year.
