Manpower survey finds brighter hiring outlook

Wichita area employers expect to pick up the pace at which they hire employees over the next three months, according to a survey from Manpower.

Among employers surveyed, 20 percent plan to hire more employees from July through September, according to Manpower’s survey. Five percent of area businesses plan to cut staff, and 74 percent expect to maintain current staff levels. And 1 percent indicated they weren’t sure about their plans.

The results were significantly more promising than the second-quarter survey results, which showed 14 percent of employers planning to add staff, and 4 percent planning to reduce staff.

Manpower officials noted that the current outlook for the third quarter was similar to the outlook for the third quarter of 2014.

Nationwide, the survey of more than 11,000 employers found that 24 percent expected to add to their workforces, and 4 percent expected to cut their payrolls during the third quarter. Seventy percent of employers said they anticipated making no change to staff levels, and the remaining 2 percent of employers were undecided.’

The survey is sponsored by ManpowerGroup, a human resource consulting firm with headquarters in Milwaukee.
