New government website aims to help business

Gov. Sam Brownback and Secretary of State Kris Kobach on Friday launched an online Kansas Business Center to help owners of existing firms and people forming new ones deal with regulatory requirements and obtain advice.

The new site contains short videos and a chat feature to provide help to business owners. It contains a library of files and allows users to register a new business and file required reports with the secretary of state’s office while also handling tax matters with the Department of Revenue.

Kobach said businesses soon will be able to interact with the Department of Labor, and the site will continue to grow until other state agencies and perhaps local governments are involved.

Brownback said during a news conference that the site is designed especially to help entrepreneurs looking to start new small businesses.

“What we’re trying to do is get the barriers to small business entry down, and this is going to help in doing that,” Brownback said.

Kobach said the new website has been an 18-month project.

“Even with everybody more or less on the same ideological page, there’s just a lot of turf and a lot of barriers,” Kobach said.
