Market tries to shake off losses; Dow up 81 points at midday

Stocks are moving higher as the market shakes off three days of losses.

Bed Bath & Beyond jumped 7 percent. The home goods retailer reported earnings and revenue for its latest quarter that were better than Wall Street analysts were expecting.

The Dow Jones industrial average rose 81 points, or 0.5 percent, to 17,138 as of noon Eastern time Wednesday.

The Standard & Poor's 500 index rose eight points, or 0.5 percent, to 1,991. The Nasdaq composite rose 30 points, or 0.7 percent, to 4,538.

Health care stocks rose the most of the 10 industry sectors in the S&P 500. Only two sectors in the index fell, energy and utilities.

Bond prices fell. The yield on the 10-year Treasury note rose to 2.54 percent.
