Union Pacific announces Kansas projects for 2015
Union Pacific railroad said Tuesday it will spend about $120 million in infrastructure projects in Kansas in 2015.
The Omaha-based company said the projects include $110 million for railroad track maintenance, $2.2 million for signal systems and $7.5 million for bridge replacement and repair.
It said some key projects in the state will be:
▪ $20.2 million to replace about 25 miles of track between Pratt and Whiteside, as well as repairs to 43 road crossings;
▪ $12.6 million to replace 15 miles of track and resurface 28 road crossings between Waldeck and McPherson;
▪ and $7.7 million to replace 68,500 railroad ties, install 38,700 tons of rock ballast and repair the surfaces at 21 road crossings between Oakley and Sharon Springs.
The company said that between 2010 and 2014 it spent more than $482 million in Kansas network improvements and repairs.
Union Pacific said it will spend $4.2 billion on its 23-state, western network in 2015.
