Wal-Mart’s decision to raise its workers’ wages will affect more than 8,800 employees in Kansas, the company said Wednesday.
Wal-Mart is raising the pay of 8,801 workers in the state, according to a news release from the company. The increases went into effect April 4.
The lowest Wal-Mart hourly wage is now $9. That’s $1.75 more than the minimum wage mandated by the federal government and the state of Kansas.
According to the news release, Wal-Mart’s full-time average hourly wage in Kansas is now $12.55.
Wal-Mart announced in February that all its workers would earn at least $9 starting this year, and that by February 2016 all current associates would earn at least $10 per hour. The company has also taken other steps to enhance work schedules and benefits.
