Grand opening

Empower Martial Arts will host a grand opening from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at 314 N. Rock.

Completed building sale

Meritrust Credit Union has completed the purchase of a new headquarters building at 151 N. Main, which is building that currently serves as the headquarters of Cargill Protein. Cargill is constructing a new building downtown on East Douglas and will lease its current offices from Meritrust until it moves to its new building in late 2018. Meritrust expects to begin its move from 8710 E. 32nd North to the North Main building in 2019.

Recognized

For a second year in a row, Becker’s Hospital Review has selected Ascension’s Via Christi Hospital St. Francis for its annual list of 100 hospital and health systems with great oncology programs.

Charity

Cox Communications and the James M. Cox Foundation announced today that they have provided a grant to fund a new technology center at the Oaklawn Boys & Girls Club in Wichita. Valued at $15,000, the Boys & Girls Club Technology Center includes state-of-the-art computers, along with desktops, monitors, laptops, printers, docking stations, wireless routers, wireless cards, and proprietary Microsoft software.

By way of the Walser Foundation, Walser Auto Group donated $3,000 in Target gift cards to an effort led by Andover High School to support faculty and students at Bellaire High School in Houston affected by Hurricane Harvey.

Riverside Health Foundation donated $350,000 in support of graduate medical education at Via Christi Hospitals in Wichita, bringing its total contribution to Via Christi programs to nearly $9 million over the past 15 years.

Mirror Inc., a provider of substance abuse prevention and treatment, received two grants funded through Central Kansas Community Foundation affiliates. The grants from the Central Kansas Community Foundation Kids FUNd and Halstead Community Foundation will be used to support Mirror’s Youth As Resources programs in Harvey County.
