After 11 years of doing business in the area, CornerBank is ready to build a permanent Wichita office.

Officials from the Winfield-based bank said Thursday that they will build a 6,000-square-foot building at the northeast corner of Berkeley Square Parkway and 13th Street, between Webb and Greenwich.

Jadd Munn, community bank president, said the building will be a “statement” of the bank’s permanence in Wichita.

“Our location currently is more of an office setting,” said Munn of space the bank has leased at 12828 E. 13th St. since 2007.

The $285 million-asset bank entered Wichita in 2003, opening a commercial loan production office downtown.

Bank officials will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for the new building at 10:30 a.m. Sept. 16.

Munn said CornerBank in 2006 bought the ground that its new office will sit on. He said CornerBank held off on a building because of the recession.

With the recent addition of two commercial lenders in Wichita, it was time to move forward with the project, he said. The bank currently has five employees in Wichita, and Munn said it likely will add at least one more employee by the time the bank’s staff can move to the new building, which he expects to be in May.

Shelden Architecture is the architect, and Hutton Construction is the general contractor.
