Wichita East, Maize high seniors named Jabara scholarship winners
Wichita State University on Thursday said two area high schools students have been named winners of the Fran Jabara Scholarship in Entrepreneurship.
Jocelyn Galicia, a senior at Wichita East High School, and Clayton Hicks, a senior at Maize High School, will each receive $20,000 over four years to study entrepreneurship at WSU.
Galicia, daughter of Teofilo and Maria Galicia, plans to study business administration with a major in entrepreneurship and international business.
At East High, she is a member of the Modern Music Honor Society, DECA, orchestra, Musical Crew and the Spirit Cabinet. In her junior year she was a top 10 finalist in the National American Miss Kansas, a YCOA Kansas Karate Tournament Champion and finished in the top three of the National Finish Line Challenge. In 2015, she placed first in the DECA Central Region Leadership Conference and was named a Kansas Honor Scholar
Hicks, son of Gerald and Gayla Hicks, plans to major in entrepreneurship. He is a member of the WSU Leadership Academy, National Honor Society and Fellowship for Christian Athletes. He is a three-year letterman in football and baseball.
The scholarship’s requirements include a declared major in entrepreneurship, a minimum ACT score of 24, and a grade point average of at least 3.5.
