Wichita pretty average, survey finds
Just how average is Wichita? Pretty average, but not as average as, say, Tulsa.
Wichita ranked as the 36th most average metro area in America out of 366 metros, according to a new survey by financial website Wallethub.
The site looked at a number of common demographic measures and compared them to the U.S. as a whole.
Wichita hit closest to the mark demographically for its age/race/family compostion, ranking fifth closest to the U.S. average. It was ranked in the 70s for its population’s economic and educational status, and 135th for housing, which is significantly less expensive than the national average.
The top ranks for averageness were populated mostly by medium-sized cities in the South and Midwest. Oklahoma City, Tulsa and Kansas City were all judged to be closer to the national average than Wichita.
The most average city in America? Nashville, Tenn.
The least? McAllen, Texas.
