Two area high school students to compete in national entrepreneur contest

Two area high school students will compete in a national entrepreneurship competition in October, according to officials from the Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship.

Lorena de la O of Wichita Heights High School and Andrew Marsh of Haysville’s Campus High School are among 41 individual and student teams from high schools across the country who have been selected to compete in the National Youth Entrepreneurship Challenge on Oct. 9 at the Computer History Museum in Mountain View, Calif.

The students will compete by pitching their business plans. The winner of the competition will receive $25,000 in direct funding for their business, according to the NFTE.

NFTE said de la O has created Flicks Under the Stars, a business that rents inflatable screens, projectors and other equipment for birthday parties, fundraisers, corporate and other events.

Marsh founded Notes on the Go, a smart phone app that displays sheet music for members of marching bands.

An NFTE spokesman said Marsh and de la O are the only high school students from Kansas selected to participate in the challenge.
