Westar starts construction on new east-side service center
Westar Energy on Friday marked the start of construction on its new service center in the Webb Business Park off of Webb Road, near 39th Street North.
It will be the company’s hub for field operations for the Wichita metro area, including the line crews who maintain and repair the power grid. It replaces the service center at 1900 E. Central built more than 80 years ago.
The 19-acre site will include storage of power poles and other materials. In addition, the building design incorporates pull-through truck bays designed for efficient loading.
Construction will be complete in early 2018.
