Featured business person: Debbie Donovan
Debbie Donovan
Consumer banking and solutions center manager, Intrust Bank
Donovan figures she was cut out for the consumer side of banking.
“I’m a pretty social person, so sitting and talking to customers and building those relationships, that fits right in with what I am doing,” she says.
She’s done pretty well on the management side, too, serving 17 years as market manager of a dozen east-side Intrust locations. Recently she was promoted to manage the consumer banking portion of all 24 Intrust locations in Wichita, along with the bank’s solutions or call center.
“I really like now how I get to lead and motivate, help the managers grow in their leadership roles in the banking centers, provide them coaching and training when necessary, working with them to develop their skills.”
Donovan was born and raised in Wichita. She started working at Intrust just out of high school 32 years ago, filing checks and verifying signatures. At the time, Intrust had three locations. “So obviously I’ve seen a lot of growth and change in the banking industry,” she says.
She worked her way up through teller and branch manager jobs. She went to Wichita State University thinking she might become a legal assistant, but after graduating with an associate’s degree in liberal arts decided banking was the right field for her.
Donovan and her husband, Gary, have one son, Chase, who will start college soon. She enjoys running and reading and is “passionate about cooking.”
