Downtown Wichita hotel behind on its taxes
The owner of the Wyndham Garden Wichita Downtown hotel owes the state more than $100,000 in taxes, according to court filings.
The owner, 786 Inc., is based in Albuquerque.
That company is owned by TNJ Group of Albuquerque, which owns nine hotels in the region but just one in Kansas.
According to court filings dated Nov. 29, the Kansas Department of Revenue contends the hotel owner owes $63,444 in sales tax, $49,058 in transient guest tax and $559 in withholding tax.
The state maintains that the company failed to pay those taxes during most of the past seven months, according to the filings.
The company has owned the hotel about 12 years and has listed it under several brands, including LaQuinta Inn and Holiday Inn.
The general manager of the hotel in Wichita referred questions to corporate executives, who didn’t immediately return phone calls.
