Wichitans richer than Americans

Per capita income in the Wichita area was $48,321 last year, putting it 71st among the 381 metros in the U.S., according to the Bureau of Economic Analysis.

That was slightly higher than the U.S. per capita income last year of $48,112.

But the area’s income growth was very slow, rising just 1.7 percent from 2014, placing it 350th among metros.

The nation’s highest per capita metro was the Bridgeport, Conn., area with a per capita income of $106,382.

In Kansas, Sedgwick County’s per capita income was $50,448, the highest among the five-county region, that inclues Butler, Harvey, Kingman and Sumner counties.

Sparsely populated Lane County was the highest, at $86,725. Johnson County, although not the highest, was very high, at $65,050 per capita.
