The Workforce Alliance of South Central Kansas said Thursday that it will move its Wichita Workforce Center to a temporary location over the weekend.
The new temporary location will be at 1220 E. First, near Washington, in a building previously occupied by Goodwill.
The Workforce Center will close at 3 p.m. Friday in preparation for the move from its longtime headquarters in the former Commerce Bank building at 150 N. Main. It will, however, offer a WorkKeys testing session at its current office on Saturday.
The Eagle reported late Wednesday that tenants of the downtown building were scrambling to find new space after its gas service had been shut off on Monday.
Workforce Alliance officials said they expect to be in the temporary location through December, and that a search for a permanent location is underway.
“We apologize to our employer and job seeker customers for this inconvenience and are committed to making this transition as seamless as possible” said Keith Lawing, president and CEO of the Workforce Alliance, in a news release.
