Wichita named the Allergy Capital of America, report says
Wichita isn’t just the Air Capital anymore.
The city also has been named the Allergy Capital of America, according to the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America.
The list, which is produced each year, looks at high pollen counts and high use of prescription and over-the-counter allergy medication. Wichita ranked second last year.
The main local pollinating weeds include amaranth, goosefoot, marsh elder, ragweed and sage, according to the website www.allergycapitals.com.
Here were the top contenders, according to the foundation:

2. Jackson, Miss.
3. Knoxville, Tenn.
4. Louisville, Ky.
5. Memphis, Tenn.
6. McAllen, Texas
7. Baton Rouge, La.
8. Dayton, Ohio
9. Chattanooga, Tenn.
10. Oklahoma City
