You don’t last in business without learning from your mistakes – and your successes.

And sometimes the difference between a useful lesson and an enterprise-ending error is razor thin.

At the same time, it’s often hard to tell whether savvy or luck should be credited for an entrepreneur’s success. A lot happens, good and bad, that’s outside the owners’ control.

But most local business owners who have built – and are still building – successful enterprises will tell you there are some lessons that if learned and followed will improve your chances of success. We asked five of them to share key pieces of practical wisdom they picked up from their own experiences.
