On Monday morning, a key part of the Brett and Tracy Morning Show on B98-FM radio will be missing — co-host Brett Harris.
“They came in today (Friday) and sat me down and said ‘We are going to take the morning show in a new direction,’ ” Harris said.
After 22 years, Harris said he was “blown away.”
The show started in October 1989.
In May, Harris said he and partner Tracy Cassidy went to management and said they wanted to go in a new direction with the producer.
They were heard out, but since then, everything has been silent with the head office, Harris said.
“No word, whatsoever,” Harris said.
Until Friday, when “they showed up … with paperwork,” and talking about a new direction.
That was a surprise for the single father of two girls, ages 9 and 6.
Rob Burton, general manager for the Wichita station, did not return calls for comment.
The show has been one of Clear Channel Radio’s longest-running shows in its stable of more than 1,100 radio stations, Harris said.
“As a male-female team, we have the longest tenure,” Harris said.
As he was being interviewed by telephone Friday afternoon, Harris said Cassidy had left his living room 10 minutes earlier.
“She was in tears,” Harris said.
What’s his next move?
“To get on the telephone and start networking,” Harris said.
His contract doesn’t run out until December, so he has some time to decide what to do.
The change presents a big opportunity, Harris said.
He may again pursue the idea of buying a station, which he considered two years ago,
“Maybe it’s time to explore that again,” he said.
